DadPrepStraight answers for first-time dads. No fluff, no shame.

DadPrep

Editorial policy

Short version: every health claim links to a primary source, nothing is invented, affiliate income is disclosed on every page that carries a link, and we fix errors in public rather than quietly.

Sourcing

Health pages

Pages about choking, infant safety, and mental health carry a stronger disclaimer, a visible sources list, and a stricter rule: nothing goes in that isn't in the linked guidance. Where clinical bodies differ between countries, we say so rather than picking the one that reads better.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and change the updated date. Substantive corrections to health pages get a line on the page saying what changed. We don't silently edit an error out of existence.

Affiliate disclosure

DadPrep earns a commission if you buy Things I Wish I Knew Before You Were Born through a link on this site. This is disclosed next to every such link, not just here. It never changes your price. No other product on this site is monetised.

We will not recommend a product we haven't read, and we won't take payment for a review.

Advertising

The site also carries advertising served by Google AdSense, which pays for the research and hosting. Advertisers have no say in what is published here and never see who you are. How ad cookies work, and how to turn personalised ads off, is set out on the privacy page.

Ads are kept off the pages where they would be worst: nothing runs beside the choking-response page or the postpartum-depression page. A parent who has arrived there at 3am is not an audience to sell to.

What we won't publish

Not by us · a paid book

Nobody hands you a guide for this part.

Arron — a good friend of mine — wrote the one he wishes someone had given him: Things I Wish I Knew Before You Were Born. 59 pages, twelve stages, from the positive test to the first birthday. Birth-plan checklist, swaddle guide, choking-response steps, babywearing positions — plus the honest chapters most books skip: your head, your relationship, your in-laws, and looking after yourself.

$37 · 59 pages · 30-day money-back guarantee

How this link works. Things I Wish I Knew Before You Were Born is Arron's book, not ours, and the link goes straight to his own checkout page. There is no commission arrangement in place yet, so DadPrep earns nothing if you buy it today. We recommend it because it's the one we'd hand a mate. If that ever changes this sentence changes with it, and either way the price you pay is $37.
