Privacy

We have no login, no mailing list and no comments, so there is almost nothing to collect. What follows is mostly about the third parties — Google's ads and our traffic counting — rather than about us.

What we collect

Nothing you type stays with us, because there is nothing to type into: no account, no newsletter signup, no comment box. The checklists and logs under Tools save to your own browser's local storage and never reach a server — which is also why clearing your browser data clears them.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people actually reach, which is how we decide what to write next. It records the page you viewed, a rough location derived from your IP address (truncated before it is stored), and general device and browser details.

It does not receive anything you enter into the checklists or tools — those never leave your browser at all. We do not use it to build advertising profiles and we do not sell data. Google's own explanation is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Advertising

This site carries advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites, and Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on that activity.

You can turn personalised advertising off in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of other vendors' advertising cookies at aboutads.info/choices. Turning it off means less relevant ads, not fewer.

We do not run ads on the pages where a parent is most likely to be frightened — the choking-response page and the postpartum-depression page carry none.

A link to Things I Wish I Knew Before You Were Born earns us a commission if you buy. It sets a cookie on the seller's side so the sale is attributed to us; it does not change your price and it tells us nothing about you personally. The full disclosure is in the editorial policy.

Third parties

Pages are hosted by Vercel and typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Both receive your IP address as a necessary part of delivering the page, as any host does. We use aggregate traffic measurement to see which pages are useful; we do not build advertising profiles from it and we do not sell anything about you.

Not by us · a paid book

Nobody hands you a guide for this part.

Arron — a good friend of mine — wrote the one he wishes someone had given him: Things I Wish I Knew Before You Were Born. 59 pages, twelve stages, from the positive test to the first birthday. Birth-plan checklist, swaddle guide, choking-response steps, babywearing positions — plus the honest chapters most books skip: your head, your relationship, your in-laws, and looking after yourself.

How this link works. Things I Wish I Knew Before You Were Born is Arron's book, not ours, and the link goes straight to his own checkout page. There is no commission arrangement in place yet, so DadPrep earns nothing if you buy it today. We recommend it because it's the one we'd hand a mate. If that ever changes this sentence changes with it, and either way the price you pay is $37.
